YOUTUBE INTRODUCES HANDLES, PLUS NEW SEO UPDATES

Bubblegum Marketing

Have you heard the new update from Youtube?

If not, don’t worry. We got you.

Ok, so I am talking about youtube handles. YouTube is changing its platform to feature “handles.” It means YouTube is removing their URLs and replacing them with handles.

What is a handle?

It’s a username. This feature will help creators to remember their channel name to their audience by just using a username.

YouTube handles, or “usernames,” now allow user interaction across Shorts, channel pages, video descriptions, and the comment section. And more. Isn’t it amazing?

“As YouTube continues to grow, we want to make sure that creators can craft an identity that is as unique as their content,” said youtube in a blog post announcing the new development. “This will give viewers the confidence that they are interacting with their favourite creators.”

Handles will be joining channel names as another method of identifying a YouTube channel. The critical difference is that handles will be unique to each channel, which should help creators establish their distinct presence and brand on YouTube.

YouTube will start notifying creators over the coming month about the ability to choose a handle for their channel. In most cases, if a channel already has a personalized URL, this will become the default handle. YouTube is rolling out this feature gradually because each handle must be unique across all channels on YouTube.

There are many factors considered when a YouTube channel becomes eligible for the handle selection process, such as the channel’s overall YouTube presence, subscriber count, and activity level.

Once a creator chooses a handle, YouTube will create a matching URL for them so that they can direct people to their channel from other platforms. For example, youtube.com/@handle. Links will not need to be updated if the channel already has a personalized URL.

What is a Custom URL for youtube?

Now that your channel is growing, it is the perfect time to customize the URL for your viewers.

A custom URL is a channel URL that is easy to remember and share with your audience. Custom URLs are based on your channel name. And the best part is you can change your URL upto three times per year.

So if you want to change your youtube URL, here are the things you need to know:

Handles Join Channel Names as Unique Identifier

In 2022, YouTube allowed content creators to change the name and URL of their channels. In addition, they offered new branding opportunities to help channels identify and distinguish themselves or their brands.

However, unlike channel names, each handle will be unique and allow creators to show their distinct brands. It is similar to the handles and usernames which are commonly used on other social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. With a unique handle, creators can show their brand and stand out from the crowd.

YouTube has offered limited support for using the @ format in the past  years. For example, users could only use it in YouTube Live chats to mention others, or creators could only use the @ format to mention channels and video titles by replying to comments. However, with this new update, YouTube now supports the ability to tag other users in the comments sections as well.

Some rules for custom URLs

A newly created google account will have to start to gain followers and create a new channel before changing its URL.

How do Youtube marketing agencies work?
